Scale for Needs of ELL

Teachers in Alexandria Community School Corporation will be expected to demonstrate that they can identify the needs of ELL students and give examples of adaptations that are made to meet their needs.

Evidence of academic vocabulary on the Learning Scales can be used to create vocabulary centers or lessons for supplemental instruction. Front loading content knowledge and vocabulary is key to the success of ELL students.

It is important for special area teachers to practice and assess vocabulary knowledge with students as well. Teachers cannot assume that students will know what words mean just because we use them often.
