Professional Development for Staff

A shared folder in Google Drive will be shared with all staff with a copy of the WIDA Standards and supporting material/strategies for working with ELL students.

School Year 2015-16

Designated ELL staff (who are paid from state and local funds) will be attending a workshop on the WIDA Standards at Anderson University in September with Dr. Albrecht. These teachers will do a building level presentation to their teachers as the principal's discretion. This can be in person after school or via a video created by the teachers who were trained (flipping the classroom) with some follow up discussion in grade level teams.

The ELL coordinator will meet in grade level teams or departments within the district to answer questions, provide individual assistance at teacher request, and explain the tie in to teacher evaluation (we use Marzano's iObservation which addresses how teachers plan and prepare for the needs of ELL students).

ELL Staff in each building will be available for consultation and direct services when necessary. The ELL coordinator will monitor implementation and keep the admin team informed.

School Year 2016-17 and beyond

New staff will be given access to district resources and the shared Google folder. ELL staff in each building will meet with new staff to discuss our district plan and where resources for best practices can be found.

Every opportunity for professional development will be shared with staff and workshops/seminars/webinars approved on a case by case basis by the building principals, ELL Coordinator, or Superintendent. Alexandria Community School Corporation supports the professional development needs of its staff and makes available funding needed each school year for this purpose.
